Getting a sports fix

Anyone who knows Pete is familiar with what a big sports fan he is, and in Ethiopia there isn't any sports to be watched except for football and camel racing (yes we did see that on TV). Not only did he miss March Madness, but also a significant part of the NBA playoffs. So when we heard that we could attend a soccer game there was no question of "if" but instead "when could we attend."

So we watched Buna (coffee) VS Ministry of Defense at the National Stadium, for a total price of $2 per person. Out of over 25,000 people at the game we were the only four "frenji" or foreigners in the stands. The energy was amazing, people were singing and dancing in the stands. It was an incredible experience and Mawerdi was able to go to her first sports game IN ETHIOPIA! She actually enjoyed watching them play on the field as well as people watching in the stands.

Because pictures were not allowed this was the best we could do, a quick shot while the security were looking the other way.

Champions aren't made in the gyms.
Champions are made from something
they have deep inside them --
a desire, a dream, a vision.
